In schools where a group of teachers enroll in a Red course, teachers and their reading coach participate in onsite Red workshops, which are designed to foster ongoing support and collaboration as they practice and implement research-based reading strategies. Scholastic Red trains local reading coaches and staff developers, providing all the resources they need to plan and manage these workshops. Reading coaches receive:
- explicit plans, activities, and agendas to conduct workshops.
- practical coaching tools, including Strategy Use Charts and guidelines for conducting demonstration lessons.
- classroom observation and conferencing tools.
Teachers taking a Red course "on their own" have many opportunities to collaborate with peers and reading experts. Using the online community-building tool of Red, teachers can share ideas with colleagues from across the country and have their reading instruction questions answered by Red's online reading mentors.
